The sitting
rat gnawing a coin above is the "proto-Rontti"
Rontti was the
comics character published first in the Finnish "Sarjis"-comics
magazine. The publisher was Williams (72-74). Veikko Savolainen,
the editor-in-chief, asked me to brush up the proto-Rontti a bit
more friendly shape. Which I did.
Those days comics were not so popular in Finland and Sarjis pointed
out a non profit investment. After Sarjis, Rontti got a new publisher
and home in "Nykypäivä" a political weekly paper
by the editor-in-chief Kimmon Kajaste and continued there for several
years.
These strips seen here are part of the published material, giving
some interview to the life of Rontti.
Strips have been translated into English (under the pictures). If
you want to suggest better translations, please send them to me
by e-mail below. I'll publish the best ones equipped with your name.
