"Music Hobby" pages of
Hannu Kuukkanen

Music has been my hobby sence sixties when we had a boy-band "Passing Five" with Marko Putkonen. Marko has had his own well known career as the leader and singer in Hortto Kaalo and singing basso in operas.

It happened as usual, when we joined to army, guy by guy we went to our own trails of life. Love in music has been following me and I'm still spending part of my spare time by playing guitar when ever there will be a possibility for it.

In the sixties I composed some pieces for the Passing Five" and later on some more along the years just for myself. Now when I have some more extra time I have been collecting them and edited some of them up to some sort of examples "demos". Just the melody and some slight idea for the lyrics. Maybe I'll continue building them up to some decent level of music pieces. Let's see. One weak point is the lyrics. Some of the poems I've taken from an old book of English rhymes. Unfortunately I've lost that book during the last 10 years. Haven't a clue when and where even though it was my treasure. If any of my readers have - or know - where to by a new piece of "Old English rhymes" I'd be glad to hear. The rhymes were rather old - from 17th hundred and so. The ones I've composed were: Cuckoo song - don't know its exact name but its here as one of the examples, the "Proper study of a mankind" and "Creation". There are some more but I cannot remember their names at the moment. I have to dig them out of my old tapes.

Those without the label "English rhyme" are just some "bulk" text or some idea but not meant to be any serious lyrics - so please forgive me if they contain so much "rubbish". Just send me a better suggestion of lyrics If you will and can.

- Cuckoo song (old English rhyme ispired by Heinz Sandner: full acoustic 12 strings) 1995
- Association (inspired by Hohner six strings half acoustic) 2007
- Where my home is? (inspired by EKO six strings half acoustic, 1966 - played here by Hohner)
- I'm your lover boy (inspired by Hohner six strings half acoustic) 2010
- My first protest song made about the Lehikoinen law case where the unfare decisions were made by the higher courts. It is called "social corruption" when the law will be forgotten by the interests of friends. This has happened in Finland where we thought it's impossible. Finnish court has adopted the style of the Russians. The song is in Finnish only but a short translation of the material it's basing on can be found from the addres: http://www.etelatuonti.fi/OIKEUS/brieflyinenglish.html

This next protest song (in Finnish) has been written by copywritter Merja Varon basing to the article about one boss of the State Pension Fund of Finland to tell in the nutshell about the greedy advantages of her and some other ways to spend and invest the pesion money which the Finnsh citizens have been saving for their old age.

If you have any suggestions to brush up the songs- especially some real lyrics for those not marked as pre made "rhymes" - all comments are welcome.

After I had retired from VTT, my work mate Stephen has written me three wonderful songs which I have composed. We are now processin them up to a CD with Jorma Nordlund the singer from our late band The Passing Five. You will hear about these later.
