Visiting Beijing in 2001

We visited in Beijing in January 2001 with my daughter. The weather was rather cold even though the temperature was only around -3 degrees Celsius. The wind and humidity made the days colder than expected. Still the timing was perfect because of low amount of turists. There were no queue even to the most important sights.

We visited: Imperial Palace Museum (forbidden city), the Temple of Heaven Park, Summer Palace, Bell and Drum Tower, Jingshan Park (Coal Hill), Bei Hai Park, Zoo, Tianmen Square, a Budhist temple in the city - nearly in every most interesting place in Bejing and short way outside like the Great Wall and the Royal Summer Palace.

Other trips on this site:
Prague, Izmir and Rome.
My other hobbies are:
Guitar playing and making music, renovation or building houses, building scale models, writing and reading books. Mainly historical - novels or classics.

Nice picture to start with. What we all think as a symbol of China is the red colour.
Having some tea as the starter of the day or in the evening to get frozen bones melted after a day in the cold and windy city. Warm tea water in a termos and tea bags were included the hotel room rent.

Candy bar in Beijing. Low cost business, just saw half of your front door away.

In this time of the year there were not so many Europeans visible on streets.

Something ancent looking in the centre of the Beijing. Maybe not so old but seems a like.

We were a bit worried when visiting the hutong area alone but actually we could walk very freely there without any trouble. The scenery was something we expected to be. Very human. Hope this hutong area still exists after the Olympic games heavy construction work in the city.

Alley in the hutong area of Beijing. Alley is leading to a small yard, possibly shared by two neighbours?

Please visit on the other China pages: a trip to the Forbidden City and a visit to the Summer Palace. We allso visited the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven Park, Bell and Drum Tower, Jingshan Park (Coal Hill), Bei Hai Park, Zoo, Budhist temple, Tianmen Square
